WHICH WATERPROOF IS RIGHT FOR ME? (WOMEN'S)
Both our Sykes and our Dawson styles have an 8k/8k waterproof rating – this means that TOG24 considers both jackets to be “very waterproof”. Our “very waterproof” jackets - like Sykes and Dawson - perform well in moderate to heavy rain, so whether you’re walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks or just taking a stroll in the park, you’ll be kept dry.
They are also both 2-layer style waterproofs, complete with full seam taping and DWR (Durable Water Resistance) coating, so they are both highly similar in terms of their waterproof performance. To find out more about these terms, and waterproof jackets in general, you can read our blog all about it here. [LINKED]
So, we know how they are the same, but what are the differences between our Sykes jacket and our Dawson jacket? Which of our waterproof jackets are right for you and your needs? Well, despite both jackets having similar waterproof performance, there are a few differences in detail which set them apart.
|Sykes||Dawson / Dawson Long|
|Exposed (waterproof) zip||Concealed zip with a placket|
|Hood rolls away into the collar||Fixed hood|
|High neck||More standard neckline|
|Cuff adjusters||Cuff press studs|
|Airtex lining (more stretchy)||Marl lining|
|Stretch fabric (suitable for more strenuous walking)||Oxford material (a nice textured, more casual fabric)|
Sykes might be nice for taking the dog for a walk, or going to the pub. Dawson might be nice for strolling down the high street, or a trip to the seaside. And, of course, our Dawson waterproof comes in both short and long styles. Ultimately, you’ll be protected from the elements whether you choose Sykes or Dawson, and looking stylish in both too.
