Six winter fashion trends to try in 2023

Looking to update your wardrobe this winter? As well as choosing cosy warm weather gear that’ll help keep the chill off, there are plenty of pieces you can wear that seamlessly merge practicality with the latest fashion trends.

From this year’s must-have accessories to the seasonal colours and prints you should be incorporating into your ensembles, let’s have a quick peek at six key trends for winter 2023. We’ll also show you how to achieve these looks in a few simple steps with items from our current TOG24 range.

  1. Back to basics

One major women’s winter trend on the catwalks this season is understated minimalism. We’re talking crisp oversized shirts paired over jeans or trousers, plus classically cut blazers and jackets in neutral, everyday tones.

This trend is particularly ideal for the outdoors-lovers among you. Fuss-free and practical yet totally timeless, there are so many ways to incorporate minimalist styling into your wardrobe. Why not build up a look featuring leggings or some slim waterproof trousers in classic black? Pair them with a high-neck jumper in a neutral tone and finish off the look with a gilet in a pared-back colour like navy or cream.

  2. Terrific textures

From plush shearling to oh-so-fuzzy borg, textured finishes are very much making a comeback this winter. Not only do they add simple, eye-catching detail to an outfit, but they also create an extra level of cosiness. Why not get the look from TOG24 with our Norell Women’s Teddy Fleece in vibrant raspberry or ice blue?

We’ve also got plenty of men’s styles featuring plush textured finishes, including our Mackay Sherpa Gilet. Wear it outdoors with a fleece and your favourite walking boots or pair it over a crisp shirt for a warm yet on-trend smart-casual look.

  3. Statement scarves

There’s no denying that scarves are an essential winter accessory. This year, they’ve been taken up a notch with bold, oversized styles that have become a key part of an outfit – not just something to keep your neck toasty.

Discover our range of scarves in bold prints and statement shades, including our Women’s Craiden Box Check Scarf which comes in a pretty pastel colourway as well as a classic heritage print. Want to make even more of a statement with your accessories? Coordinate your scarf with your outfit’s colours. Or experiment with draping your scarf around your shoulders instead of just wrapping it around your neck for a more stylish finish.

  4. Wintery florals

Thought florals were just for spring? This year, they’ve hit the runways a season early – but there’s a big difference. Instead of pretty spring pastels like light pink and baby blue, it’s all about dark, romantic florals which pair well with moody winter shades.

Channel the trend by adding our Craven Waterproof Packaway Jacket in the dark indigo floral print to your jacket rotation. Or for a more understated option, our Gilly Women’s Padded Short Jacket in the scribble floral finish is the perfect pick. Not just featuring a fashion-forward print, it’s also been thoughtfully designed to keep the cold and the wind out – meaning you can wear it outside in any weather.

  5. Paint the town red

Pink may have been the ‘it’ colour in the summer. However, now the temperatures have started to drop, the shade to be seen in is…red! This vibrant hue is set to be a popular choice throughout the winter season, with scarlet being the best-loved variation.

While you could go all-out and wear it head-to-toe, it’s also very easy to introduce just the occasional pop of red into your wardrobe. Discover cosy women’s knitwear in this wonderfully bright shade or make a splash with a red coat such as our Drax Women’s Hooded Down Jacket in dark coral.

For any men keen to channel this on-trend shade, why not update your base layers with a cherry red thermal crew neck? And let’s not forget about your favourite four-legged friends! Our Mutt Dog Coat in chilli red is super stylish and great for keeping pooches warm on frostier winter walks.

  6. Say yes to stripes

It’s not just florals that are in the spotlight this winter. An autumn trend that’s here to stay is stripes. One of the easiest – and comfiest – ways to embrace this trend is with a soft, striped jumper. Our Anthea Women’s Roll Neck Jumper features navy blue stripes set against an off-white background and it couldn’t be a better staple piece to add to your knitwear collection.

For a more colourful pick, check out our Janine Women’s Striped Crew Neck Jumper which features a trio of vibrant shades. You could also add stripes to your outdoor gear with the bold Kilnsey Women’s Waterproof Jacket in chic Atlantic blue.
